Zandie Khumalo pens a love letter to good men with Onjengawe, on a mission to share love.
Her newest single, Onjengawe is a love soaked, sweet and tender ditty dedicated to good men.
A lover of love, Zandie points out that she looked to the old fashioned ways to express love from a woman with a grateful heart. Thank you for choosing me/Thank you for loving me – she croons over a melodic tune with an African soul.
‘We have had many narratives about how bad men are, that men are trash,’ says Zandie. ‘With Onjengawe, I remind music lovers that good men can still be found. There are great men loving their families, honouring their partners and taking care of their children.’
She has already recorded a video for Onjengawe which she says focuses on nature and beauty in everybody and everything.
Zandie points out that love is central to her calling as a musician. ‘I’ve always loved talking about love. My debut album was released in the month of Valentine’s Day, it’s always a perfect time to celebrate love.’
Zandie is confident that both young and old will relate to Onjengawe. ‘Whether in love or hurt, I wish that after listening to Onjengawe you have a different perspective of men. Some of them try twice as hard to be good and some are doing exceptionally great things. Don’t give up on love, you can still fall in love.’
After postponing the release of her album last year, Zandie plans to drop it album later this year.
Onjengawe is composed by Zandie and Mojalefa Mjakes Thebe and produced by Mondli Ngcobo. It will be available on all major digital music platforms from 15 January 2021.
