According to Trends in Trade in Counterfeit and Pirated Goods, a joint report released by the Organisation for EconomicCo-operation and Development (“OECD”) and the European Union Intellectual Property Office (“EUIPO”) in 2019, the value of imported fake goods worldwide topped $509 billion based on 2016 customs seizure data, up from $461 billion in 2013, the latter of which represents 2.5% of world trade.

Johannesburg - On Tuesday 18 August, the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) launched the SAMPRA Development Fund. “The main objective of the SAMPRA Development Fund is to create ongoing sustainable support for SAMPRA members in a manner that adds long-term value to their livelihood and careers,” said Tiyani Maluleke, Chief Stakeholder Officer at SAMPRA.
