Great initiative by Lasizwe and friends, #R10GoesALongWay, raises R317 000 in 24 hrs.
What started as a question on how to combat South African students' fees issue, has turned to an incredible progressive campaign. Thursday (12 March 2021) night, TV personality, Thulasizwe 'Lasizwe' Dambuza, went live on Instagram asking how can he assist raise funds for students. Then entertainment colleagues Sibu Mabena (Founder of Duma Collective), Ntateko 'Takkies' Dinwiddy (Rocking In Heels owner) and AyandamantombazaneKayise Mhlongo (Viacom CBS' Marketing Manager and IceKream magazine owner) joined, and #R10GoesALongWay was created.
#R10GoesALongWay is a crowd funding campaign aiming to help collect money for students' fees. Protests have put Mzansi on hold as students want their demands to be heard. University of Cape Town (UCT) and University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) barred students from registering due to historic debt. Their call it's for that debt to be scrapped and registration to continue.
By contributing R10 to Lasizwe and friends' crusade, people will help raise one million Rands towards students' fees.
Corporate brands, KFC being one of them, began contributing. And in 15 hrs R200 000 had been donated.
As they took a break, R317 000 was raised. All in just a day.
