Robert Hobbs was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1972 and educated at the University of Cape Town, graduating with a BA/Performers Diploma in Speech and Drama.
His early years were spent in the South African theatre with highlights such as Macbeth for the State Theatre and Kindertransport for the world-famous Market Theatre, along with multiple other productions. He was a founding member of Cape Town's longest-running improvisational troupe Theatresports and also wrote and produced his own plays, notably Walking Joe and For Better For Wors to critical success.
Robbert is best known for his role as Bernard Markgraaf in the e.tv soapie Rhythm City,
He also starred as mechanic JP van der Westhuizen in the Mzansi Magic telenovela Inkaba. Robert has appeared in numerous television series and films including Scout's Safari, Wild at Heart, Isidingo, The Devil's Whore, and Strike Back. Bravo Two Zero, Hey Boy, In My Country, The Trail, Krakatoa: Volcano of Destruction, Catch a Fire, Jerusalema, District 9, Invictus and Safe House.
Robert Hobbs plays Frank Drake, a rich coldhearted mine owner. His latest scheme is to offload a mine to the community that lives around the facility in such a way that a government minister. One could argue that Robert's character is in sync with some government officials.
