South African Zulu monarch, King Goodwill Zwelithini, is no more.
The IFP founder, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, advised of King Zwelithini's tragic news in a statement issued on Friday (12 March 2021) morning.
Last month, the Zulu king was admitted to ICU in a private hospital after several glucose issues. His situation was getting better, “I am pleased to report that Her Majesty Queen Thandekile and I have been fully briefed by the head of the medical team overseeing His Majesty’s treatment, and are reassured that everything is going well," said Buthelezi last week Friday (5 March 2021).
This morning, it was announced his case wa severe and he died in the early hours of the morning.
Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi confirmed saying, "It is with the utmost grief that I inform the nation of the passing of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu, king of the Zulu nation. Tragically, while still in hospital, His Majesty’s health took a turn for the worse and he subsequently passed away in the early hours of this morning.”
The royal house thanked South Africans for their prayers and support during his illness.
King Zwelithini passed away at age 72. He made history as the longest serving monarch of the Zulu Kingdom, with a reign spanning over five decades.
