Met Gala 2021 kicked off in style as fashion’s biggest night in celebration of the Costume Institute’s newest exhibition, In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Originally supposed to be held on the first Monday in May, this year’s gala was postponed to the evening of September 13 due to COVID-19. Celebrities across industries took to the Met Gala carpet to showcase their interpretation of the theme.
The carpet saw multiple embodiments of American style, be it through more prominent and flashy ensembles that paid an homage to the star-spangled motif or more discreet nods to the theme. Throughout the years, the Met Gala has hosted an abundance of iconically memorable outfits and has become known as a more-is-more event for celebrities looking to flex their connections to the fashion industry. This year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by pop sensation Billie Eilish, critically acclaimed actor Timothée Chalamet, global tennis star Naomi Osaka and American poet and activist Amanda Gorman.
