We recently had some time in the phenomenal offering from Kia, the Sonet.
This car is smaller and cheaper than its older sibling, the Kia Seltos but the array of offerings you get in this car is amazing. I tested the 6-speed manual model and here are my thoughts.
The Kia Sonet is priced at R284 995, and I think that that’s some competitive and great pricing. In this economy, especially in SA, everyone is looking for something fully loaded and easy on the pocket, and that’s exactly what the Sonet offers. It has amazing build quality, fuel economy and decent performance outputs of 85kW/144Nm. The engine does whine a bit, making some noise but its easy to overlook that because of how amazing this car is. For under R300k and that amount of interior quality, it is a steal.
The drive is quite engaging and gear changes are smooth, also the handling is quite great. It copes very well on both the highway and city driving plus, it’s easy to park. The need for small SUV’s has grown substantially in SA and manufacturers are jumping onto this segment very fast. Are they getting it right? Fully. The Kia Sonet is the perfect example of value-for-money, you get amazing tech, a banging sound system, plush interior materials and stunning aesthetics to match. Ergonomically, it does well. The boot space is large enough for groceries or travel luggage and all occupants can sit comfortably in this car.
The Kia Sonet 1.5 EX manual will set you back R284 995 and comes with a 5-year unlimited warranty and a 4-year/60 000 km service plan.
